exhaust availability

Post by citsncycles »

This has come up recently, but I thought I'd better flag this up here - I've just been informed by my local independant exhaust supplier (who aren't tied to a chain so have several suppliers they use) that they cannot get any intermediate pipes for TD's (the one from the front pipe into the crossbox) bacause manufacture has stopped and all their wholesalers have sold out!

I have the Westons trying a couple of their sources at the moment, but failing that they may have a good 2nd hand one I can use. I hope they manage as I can't afford a stainless system at the moment.

Try that. It is where I got a complete system for my GTi recently. Made up of a mixture of Bosal and Walker parts. I have looked up TD and it brings that up which is the same as is on the GTi I believe.

I've just got the non TD rear box from here. Nice bloke (a BX fan!) and he said they keep a lot of BX parts still in stock so could be worth a try.

Well for now the Westons have once again come to the rescue with a good 2nd hand section, so I hope to fit it all up on Sunday, as well as sorting a couple of rust holes. Their supplier was out of stock, but was expecting some in sometime next week. I'll probably opt for a stainless system at some point in the future, but it's not in the current budget.

I know - I couldn't believe it, it's not like BX's have been out of production for long either!

Confirm, Neat were good for quite a few bits, like driveshaft oil seals, wishbone bushes etc. Seem to be pretty cheap and prompt.

SAF are still holding plenty of most exhaust sections, including the link pipes.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

20 years this year! Twice the usual life expectancy of most cars. when I fit new exhaust parts I try and paint them first with high temp paint as it really lengthens the lifespan.

I suppose that when I've only ever owned 1 car from the 90's (and that was my H reg. 14TGE), it does skew my view on vehicle age a bit
