Hydraulic pump belt tensioner

Post by juno106 »

Hello!

Does anyone know if the tensioner for the hydraulic pump belt on the 16 valve is the same as that on a 1.6? I vaugely remember that they look very similar.

My 1.6 is in need of a replacement and at £85 quid for a new one I'm exploring my options.

Thanks.

I take it you mean the idler bearing that is used as a tensioner? I've had one go noisy and had to fork out. It might be worth a punt on ebay France to find a cheaper one. The 1.6 unit is certainly the same as the 1.4, and I would not be surprised if anyting driven of the crank o/s uses the same part. I think when I scrapped my 14 I raided it for this part, plus a few others.

I've never seen the particular idler pulley tensioner you are after but have also never seen one that doesn't just have standard bearings in that can be removed and replaced very easily and cheaply with over the counter bearings.

Hi Defender, my bearing is an INA one but I can't see how you extract it. Theres no circlip visible, or do you pull/lever off the cover to get at the bearing and retainer? It certainly looks like it should be a standard ball race type probably 'sealed for life' ie RS type.
I would be interested in how to uncover thebearing. Drifting it out should be more straight forward. I kept the old one I had so it can be refurbished.
