fuel hose size / wind deflectors
Hi all
Will be driving to Montpellier (France, not Bristol ) in a couple of weeks and want to minimise the likelihood of disasters en route. The fuel hose under the bonnet has a couple of little cracks in it so I think I'll replace it before I set off.
Anyone know the internal diameter of the hose to the fuel rail on a 16v? I would check but I'm at work, and would like to order it today.
Also has anyone ever bought these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wind-Deflecto ... 53f95f6834" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ? They don't look like they're official citroen, so wasn't sure whether to fork out and then realise they don't fit...
Thanks (and any other advice about what to take/check, most welcome!)

Re: fuel hose size / wind deflectors
You can buy fuel hose off the reel in a range of sizes from the local factors. It's not at all necessary to order a special hose for this! (experienced on the 8V Gti)

If they don't fit you are entitled to send them back for a full refund, including postage. So there's no risk in trying. Personally I dislike the look but they are very useful - fitted them to the Discovery and the van.

Way2Go thanks - I know it's not necessary to order special Citroen hose, I just don't know what internal diameter to go for! Sadly my local factors has just closed down.
Mat - I hate the look too, but thought it would assist with driving on autoroutes with no air-con but a desire to hear the stereo. Will order some and see how I get on...

Re: fuel hose size / wind deflectors
OK, just checked back through my receipts and I bought 2 metres of 10mm Fuel Hose. The part number for this Gates Fuel Hose is 3225-10054. I found 2 metres more than enough, I think I tried to buy 1.5 metres but for £2.33 per metre then it wasn't a problem having the waste.RobC wrote:Way2Go thanks - I know it's not necessary to order special Citroen hose, I just don't know what internal diameter to go for
PS: This one was stocked by "Camberley Auto Factors".

Re: fuel hose size / wind deflectors
Branches of Pirtek should stock fuel hose. I've bought a fair length for our outboard motors at the sailing club as they regularly rot out ie crack from sunlight. rarely ever fail completely.
Re: fuel hose size / wind deflectors
Be certain that the fuel hose you buy is rated for use with fuel injection. It is a very different construction to hose for carburetor systems. Also fit new hose clamps, again rated for fuel injection as cheap and nasty ones can pinch the hose and cause leaks.

They should help - the van doesn't have AC and it was better in France this year with them fitted. The other benefit is that you can leave the windows slightly open when parked without being obvious. And now I care less about aesthetics as I'm getting older!RobC wrote:Mat - I hate the look too, but thought it would assist with driving on autoroutes with no air-con but a desire to hear the stereo.

Good advice - try to get correctly sized fuel hose clips too - jubilee clips if old or poor quality and / or too big won't grip evenly - not a good place to leak!michaelr wrote:Be certain that the fuel hose you buy is rated for use with fuel injection. this sort of thing is good, if maybe a little pricey:

Re: fuel hose size / wind deflectors
The Gates fuel hose I posted about is a double walled fuel hose and compatable with injection. It also needs to be this type as you have to make a 180 degree turn to fit to the rail end which on a lesser quality hose would likely cause an immediate collapse by kinking.themildbunch wrote:Good advice - try to get correctly sized fuel hose clips too - jubilee clips if old or poor quality and / or too big won't grip evenly - not a good place to leak!michaelr wrote:Be certain that the fuel hose you buy is rated for use with fuel injection. I concur though with the recommendation on hose clips though even though I used jubilee clips successfully.
