the idea is to dribble it into the inlet and allow the engine to suck it in and coat all of the valves and piston tops, I daresay if a sufficiently talented idiot upended a litre of GL4 down the inlet a hydraulic lock and significant damage could result.

now cleaned and re-fitted, removed all the crud from the partially blocked breathers and fitted new breather pipes, result; a nice even cold idle @1100rpm settling to a warm steady idle@950rpm, nail varnish remover and cotton buds seemed to make a very nice job of removing all the carbon build up from the body. have also learned that that the butterfly must go back in exactly the same position with the hole at the bottom (schoolboy error) not the top which gives a very erratic idle.

That'll be amyl acetate I think in nail varnish remover - smell the pear drops!

Yeah, acetone and the derivatives are pretty good, though watch the plastics!. I usually have a few litres of it about for GRP and epoxy work. Well done Rutter.
