tzd problems
car at 80mph + vibrates realy bad new balljoints new driveshafts track rods new tyres new brake pads new brake disks wot can it be has over owners had this problem
Re: tzd problems
Have you checked the wishbone bushes? If worn they certainly give a wobble to the steering! If yours are 20+ years old ie never replaced I would definitely check them. Failing that I suppose and engine mount may be a bit loose, I'm not knowledgeable about the diesels though, other folk on here are.
If you look at the two ends of the wishbone you should see rubber bushes. If they are cracked and stiff most likely that is the cause. The current potholes knacker them for sure. They are about a tenner from NEAT Autos for genuine ones. The difficult bit is extracting the wishbone pin... search on the forum for how to do it.

Re: tzd problems
Sounds like the wheels need balancing or may be a bit square?

Re: tzd problems
If you can accelerate through the vibration then it's likely balancing as Mulley says. Also as Mulley alludes to, are your wheels alloy or steelies?

Re: tzd problems
With that work done you must have had the tracking etc done. Damaged wheels and tyres are becoming a problem, especially poorly designed but often great looking alloy wheels. Knocks of the balance weights sometimes. My bud marks where they are so he can see if ones got lost. Not that organised myself. Daft one, but it happens, wrong wheel bolts so the chamfer does not butt up totally.

Re: tzd problems
ar the wheels from the 206 the same steel ones
Re: tzd problems
Very strange, I do wonder if you have a rogue tyre?. If the wheels are the correct, OE steels and you have a matched pair of tyres on the front, there should be sweet balance. It would be interesting to weigh each wheel and tyre as a whole. Balancing is not the same thing. Slight sidewall damage can cause a wobble. Might be worth putting the most equal weight wheel/tyres on the front and see if it persists. I am also assuming no stones etc caught in tread... Time to get out the bathroom scales
It is still worth checking the mounts and especially the lower mount off the front of the subframe as it has a rubber bush in it. If it wanders about it is quite near the driveshaft to the o/s and might allow a bit of 'movement' especially with the torque of the diesel. The other thing worth checking is the steering coupling especially as it is close to the subframe mounting. These can perish over time and should be visible just over the PAS rack/rod part.

Re: tzd problems
bent driveshaft? intermediate bearing? i have had a duff tyre in the past causing this. check all your engine mounts esp the bottom one at the back and that the top one is tight. i know it sounds silly but are your wheels on straight i.e the little stud is lined up with the hole?

Re: tzd problems
I'd certainly check the tyres as Tinkley suggests.
The intermediate drive shaft bearing would be making a rumbling noise for quite some time before it deteriorates enough to allow a bad vibration.
Never had a bent drive shaft but I'd wonder how the hell you could bend one???

Re: tzd problems
If the drive shafts have been installed without the circlip on the shaft.
This sometimes allows enough side movement on the inner tri-joint,
and throws the shaft out of balance.
But this normally only show up on bends.
My gut feeling would be a rogue wheel/tyre (As Tinkley suggests)
Change the front to rear wheels and then note any difference..
Good luck.

You've got to pass through 80 to get to 132!Defender110 wrote:Stay below 80
Seriously though, if you're in the habit of regularly thrashing your engine at these speeds then it may be wear in the engine say valves, big ends, small ends or main bearings that cause the engine through any imbalance to noticeably vibrate at higher rpm and transmit this through the mounts to the car. Is there a difference between 4th&5th gears for the vibration point?

Swop the wheels front to back and see if it gets better.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
