Hi Folks,
Is the intermediate bearing the same for turbo and non turbo shafts?...

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, yes - I've always used whatever shafts were lying around (including from my old petrol TRS) and never noticed any difference.

I thought TZD and 16V drive shafts were a bigger diameter?

The CV joint is larger, yes. But the actual shaft is the same.

Thanks all.
The bearing on my Turbo BX is making slight noises.
I only have a spare non turbo shaft, and took the number from the rubber seal.
6006 2RS - 30x55x13mm.

Ordered one from Bearing Options, 2.99GBP inc postage, very cheap I thought, hoping it was the same.

So before I remove the shaft, I would like to be 100% sure the bearing is correct.

Does any one have a turbo shaft off the car, and can check the number for me.

Thanks

I have shafts off the car, but I won't know if they're standard Turbo ones or not....

OK Kev, Thanks for looking.

The turbo and 16v shafts are similar, the CV joints and the shaft diameter are larger, so if you have a shaft that is larger, that most likely will be shaft from a TD or 16V.

Can you read the number that is moulded on the rubber seal?.

In that case I stand corrected. On the basis that the splined ends are the same, I'd believed that the entire shaft was.

The 6006RS is the intermediate bearing on my 1.6 petrol o/s shaft. I changed it recently, be prepared to angle grind through the old one to get at the collar to drive it off. Reassembly is a doddle.

Looked at a few shafts. One I'd labelled up as BX TD (and which had the larger joints) was the only one with visible markings on bearig - it was indeed a 6006 2RS (important to get the 2RS because it has seals on both sides - RS just stands for Rubber Seal).

I've come across this on GS's too - GS X series and GSA cars have larger diameter shafts than the standard later GS ones, but all have the same splines for the outer CV joint.
