BX sphere's. Grey, not green and with chevrons.

Post by Mothman »

Anyone seen these on a BX of late? These are the front sphere's fitted to Wilma. They are grey and not green ones. Ive never come across them this colour before nor have i ever seen any with chevrons.

Genuine green ones have chevrons on, well mine do anyway.

When I say genuine, I mean the same spheres as all the other brands with some chevrons punched into them.

Wasn't there something about OE ones having a double diaphragm? All I know is that apparently Citroen changed to grey spheres for all models around the end of Xantia production, but have to say I've never seen one.

Last set of front ones I got from GSF in 09 and have just changed, one had the Chevrons the other did not. One was even a slightly different size! Both were green and came in Amtek boxes, they may or may not have been identical for pressure.... worked OK but a bit disappointed as to life.

Congratulations - look like nearly new genuine Citroen spheres! I've got a set just the same on (appropriately) the grey one. Bought last year from a gent over here who'd fitted all new genuine spheres to both his immaculate TD estates. A few days later one was hit by a lorry and written off. He salvaged the spheres and I bought them - in original boxes with all postage labels etc from Citroen central stocks.

I wouldn't have got them, except he was selling stuff at a boot sale and had the bonnet of his other estate open - I noticed the grey spheres and asked the question. He explained, then said he had a full set of five for sale for 50 euros - nearly bit his hand off....

Do you think the xantia sinkers may have been fitted with these spheres, which probably made them suitable for the BX?

Mine aren't Xantia spheres - they're as supplied by Citroen for the BX. Boxes (Peugeot branded not Citroen) are marked as for BX.

Maybe that's the difference.....PSA can often cross-supply parts. Maybe if you buy spheres from Peugeot they come grey?

In all the cars I've had and been around (quite a lot of BXs!) I've never seen them. And I've bought genuine boxed spheres, plus all the aftermarket ones. Even worked in parts for a good 5-6years....saw nothing like that until the C5 came about.

I never saw a grey BX sphere until aqquiring the Diesel 2 years ago. I also asked this question on facebook wanting to know where the grey ones came from or what they originally were for. Still none the wiser after Andy threw the curveball.

Maybe, but although these came in individual Peugeot boxes, they were packed in a bigger Citroen box, wrapped up with Cit-branded sticky tape, and supplied through a Cit dealer! Wish I'd kept the packaging/invoice now!

Newly made original spheres tend to be grey these days. I think it's old stock if you get green ones.
IFHS spheres remain green.
I have fitted double memphrane Xantia front spheres (55bar) to rear, and it makes a nice smooth ride.
You recognise the double memphrane sphere from three dots around the filling cap. Didn't have a picture at hand atm, sorry.

Edit: Uu, I did, I did! Look below:
