CAV cut out under load

Post by Willy »

Hadn't driven the car for a week or so then this morning, half way to work put my foot down leaving a roundabout - got to 3000rpm and the engine cut out. Pulled over, switched on again fine and drove off. Next time I put my foot down again at high revs, same thing happened, then started again fine. This dynamic continued as I completed my journey.

Stop solenoid with a mind of its own? Too much fuel coming through confuses it? I've done 200 or so motorway miles since I replaced it, fine, so I'm really baffled by this. Took it out then back in again in the car park and seems to be okay now, but still very strange.

Can anybody enlighten me further?

Cheers

Blind stab in the dark - as you floor it, either the throttle linkage itself, or the movement of the engine is interrupting the correction to the stop solenoid. Can't think of any other explanation, but I'd be interested to hear what you find...

Fuel starvation under load; it's ok when you want smaller amounts of fuel but creates a vacuum when trying to demand too much. Pick up pipe blocked or weak primer bulb sucking itself in?

..that_
I'd read "cut out" as completely stopping running, but after re-reading it my idea doesn't stack up as it's not the act of flooring it but when it gets to a certain point that the problem occurs.
