i told mine and the third parties insurance company i was retaining salvage rights, back in may 2012 when the unmaned motorbike hit the O/S/R door and sill of my BX TZD, this was recorded as total lose,
and they had no problem with that in the slightest,

they can only insist in removing your car if it is structurally damaged, as they have a duty of care to make sure it is crushed

As has been said above and having seen the pics... do not let them take it away as this will be write off territory with this damage.

I had a CX written off years ago for much less damage than that. Unfortunately.

I come back to what I said before - what about fixing it first, then telling them it's too late to worry about it. I know I read this somewhere here last year.
I am also now confused about salvage rights as I'm getting two different stories here!

You can just tell them you do not wish to claim for your vehicle. Unless you request their service they will not even look at the car.

I can guarantee you, that pictured above IS a CATEGORY C write-off and would require a VIC check to be sold on AFTER a claim.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

This incident is nearly a dead ringer for the one that wrote off my last BX in '09. Unfortunately unless you can prove your car is worth about 3k+ it will be a write off. I decided to buy back my car for 25 quid as the engine was a full recon I'd fitted with 65k on it. I subsequently bought another identical model BX 2 days later for 300 but that was in 09. The chances of doing that now are slim and the replacement is in nowhere near the same condition.

If you want to stick with a BX find another near identical and buy, using the write off as a donor/repairable or repair it. The lattter will cost but my be worth it if a good car. The more work you can do yourself the more you save. It is tough but that is the way of it. Good BX are only going to cost more now as there are so few, I'm upping my value this year to over 1200 as there are only 3 of that model on the road, we shall see whet the response is...

Malcolm's still fighting his claim after 18 months. Be prepared to be patient.

That looks rather dead. Poor old girl.

hi all thought it about time i booked in to the club. sorry to to see your start to the new year start with a bang( sorry about the pun) what ever you do, do not let the insurance com take the car from you. they will say they will put it in free storage.after that you will not see the car again, from your pictures the car will defiantly be aright off. so keep the car with you & tell them that is in your care until the final decision is made. if you decide to buy it back,& want to repair it if your interested i have in stock new lower & upper front panels, s/hand bonnet front wing f/bumper in red as well. best of luck, Barry of bourne

Hi Tim,

R'M here again.

Have seen your pics, looks quite bad but could be repaired quite easily.

Insurance claims are a minefield and everybody's experiences differ.

Many years ago was involved in an accident in a red BX estate, a jeep V8 ran over the front wing when it flew round a corner, because he was coming off the A road and I was starting to negotiate a turn off a B road, I was held to be responsible.

20 year old n/a diesel against 8 year old V8 petrol, can't see me in that sort of race. Anyway his car was worth about £900 and he had £2.5k worth of repairs done to it. His wasn't written, why and how does that work?

Didn't claim mine because I wanted to keep it.

Also bought 2 years ago an Audi 200 quattro turbo avant F reg. it had a V.I.C outstanding, so had to have it trailered to and from inspection centre, it was a Cat C insurance claim. It had been struck by lightening and had had paint burnt on the C post which had been repainted. A broken bumper is also a Cat C claim.

Whatever you decide to do about claiming or not be careful that your insurance does not put it in the structural damage B catagory, which is break for parts only, not to be put back on the road. Catagory A is no parts, no breaking, crush only.

Hope this works out in your favour. Best of luck.
