Slow LHM leak
Slow LHM leak
My car appears to have developed an LHM leak, it's nothing major yet but at the garage they reckon that I need to be on the look out for a replacement pump. Tim has offered one but he's not sure that it's working. I just wondered if anyone else has one that they know is working and that they don't need (1.6 Txi auto). I've tried to see wherethe leak is coming from but it's proved very difficult and all I can say for sure is that it's around the pump.

Re: Slow LHM leak
Sometimes the pipe connected to the output of the pump starts to crack before breaking completely - if that happens you'll have lots of LHM over the floor and the car will not be driveable. It happens more often on diesels though due to greater vibration.
I'd check to see if the pipe is available easily, and if it is then get the garage to remove the pipe and check it for cracks just where it enters the pump. I don't know where that pipe runs on the petrol engine - on the diesel it's a fairly long pipe which must be clamped securely with "P" clips to stop vibration getting to the joint between the pipe and the pump - that may also apply on the petrol engine as well.
