Injector (washer) removal 19D

Post by kieran.l »

Hello all,

I wondered if there are any tips or tricks for removing the injectors (and injector washers) from the 1.9 n/a diesel. Need to replace one of the injector washers as there is diesel bubbling up when running.

Cheers, and Happy Christmas to all,

Kieran

are you sure its diesel leaking out????? , or just leaked/spilled engine oil bubbling as the engine heats up

i use a this stiff length of the likes of locking wire with a small hook bent at one end to hook out the tip washer, and a pick the lift the copper washer out,

I've had this before with a leaking washer - bubbling around the base of the injector... but as said it's likely a diesel leak from above and the compression leak causing the bubbles

Sometimes the copper and fireseal washers can be very tough to get out and the usual picks won't work... When I replaced all my injectors recently I had to use a sharp flat head screwdriver to chisel, then prise the copper washer out -they are quite thick so if you're careful you won't damage anything. Carbon had really stuck the washers in... The smaller fireseal washer where the and of the injector seats also needed a sharp tap before they would prise out.

You should check you have the correct thickness copper washers. Someone here recently fitted some supplied by a diesel specialist and they were to thin and the injector wouldn't seal - I think the correct copper washers are 2mm thick

The bubbling is coming from the base of one injector only. So as described by themildbunch, perhaps there is a diesel leak somewhere because the engine is quite wet in that general area.
I will check the washer thickness. The motor factors gave us two types of washer as he couldn't remember which was correct.
Thank you guys.

I would check the leak off pipe first and the main injector pipe, diesel is very good at traveling in stealth mode.
