Post by rutter123 »

Does anyone know what the boost pressure on the Garrett T2 turbo, ive heard the factory set it at 9psi (approx 0.6bar) is this correct?

I think it's more like 0.9 BAR.. I run mine a little higher at 1.25bar :D

The turbo itself is 1.2 Bar which makes it 0.9 in the manifold. At least by my measurements, the turbo was repaired and set to it's max (which is 1.2 Bar) and the pressure gauge showed me 0.9. Putting better piping and a bigger intercooler would make a difference, I think it should be pretty easy to fix things up from losing 0.3 Bars?

Thanx for that Mr K, so you are running yours at nearly 20psi on boost, which other modifications? Fuelling? Bigger exhaust? Im currently in the process of building up a non standard XUD7TE which will be going into the gti as the gti engine has many probs and im tired of it now. I have the engine from my old tgd which has only done 80,000 miles i know this was an excellent engine which gave no trouble and has the preferred bosch pump and garrett turbo, the turbo has a small amount of play on the shaft so this will be rebuilt (poss hybrid) and run at 16/17psi , in addition to this extra fuelling and maybe a camshaft from 1.9n/a with a non restrictive exhaust system. Should be good fun for a diesel, still doing my homework on some bits but looking forward to the end result.

I did have some extra fuelling. The acceleration was excellent when testing, but no road could be seen in the review mirror (because of the smoke) so had to turn down a little :D
Fuel consumption went up (at over 80km/h speeds) when added under boost fuelling (because the Van has some more wind area in front), so I added the basic fuellin some, and a little on the boost fuelling. With 0,5l/100km extra and only a little bit of smoke I got enough good going. Never did any measurements of the figures, tough. I did pull a trailer of 600kg with it and it did as good as standard without (with some smoke) so that was just good for me. Nothing else done. Old diesels are easy.. Oh yeah, for the MOT I did adjust the fuelling a bit less which is very easy on the Bosch pump.
If you want POWER, then you have to modify the internals of the pump (Bosch modifications are quite easy to find) and put a bigger intercooler, but where's power there's smoke. I don't know how strict you guys are on MOT and if police sees you on the road.

Police over here are not fans of very smokey vehicles, usual case being petrol into a diesel and thick white smoke, as for MOT as well as emission testing there is a visual smoke test on diesels, tho my current t/d was starting to smoke a bit and burn oil, so the kkk turbo had a new cartridge and rebuild is now a lot less smokey and a little more up on power, it is the 1st time i have done any major work to the engine at 285,000 miles.
