Thanks for the replies.
In the end I sent them back & got a full refund. He said that: "after testing the pressure was correct, but the dampers have been set on the hard side" which sounds like rubbish to me, but I can't complain because I got the money back.
I haven't had time to go to Westroen to get any more spheres yet, but I will take a afternoon off work one day & go get some.
As for the struts, they don't creak, they are just slightly jerky when lifting up, but they are not the worst I have seen.

The damping is 'set' by the diameter of a drilled hole - sounds like rubbish to me too!
