Intermittant Hydraulic pressure

Post by Mike E (uk) » Wed Aug 24, 2005 12:30 am

Hi,
Just put the BX back together again after its new octopus and return pipes.
(When they broke, all the fluid squirted out.)

It took ages to get the pump running, and after much shaking, it rose up to full height.

But when I let it down to minimum height, it would not go up again.

Turned car off, 5 mins later started it up again, and the pump started
immediately. Let it run for a bit, then the warning lights 'brake and 'stop' came on, (like if there is no fluid in the reservoir) and the HP pump would not start up again.

Any ideas what is going on?

I have not bled the brakes yet, but I doubt if this is the problem.

When the pump is running properly, it rises up nicely and corrects the height as i sit on it.

frustrated and confused,

Mike

Hi Mike, Its probably just air in the system. By now it will probably be OK but if not undo the pressure release screw on the regulator with engine running then retighten, it may be neccessary to repeat this several times, also turn the steering from lock to lock to expel all air from the steering system.
Regards Ken.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Also make sure that the pickup hose connection at the reservoir is really airtight.

Problem solved!

the reason why the pump would stop working after a few minutes was
a dodgy flow regulator.
I put another (2nd hand) one on when I did the octopuss coz it was leaking
a bit.
Put another one on and all OK now.

Feeling much happier now, car is running fine.
