Coolant Pipe

Post by Ian_Fearn »

Does anybody have a source for coolant pipes?

The main stealer wants rather a large amount of money for the pipe that goes between the rad and the thermostat housing.

Can you use straight ppe? Halfords and others sell plastic joiners - straight and reducing and angles.

Its for the GTi Ken.

The radiator to thermostat housing hose is shot.

It looks very similar to the diesel one.

Have you tried a small local motor factor, Ian? I`m sure you could buy lengths of pipe which you cut down to size. Failing that how about a plumbing supplies company?

I'm guessing the n/a diesel pipe is same as the turbo diesel pipe so i'll compare my TD to the GTi and see, thanks Ken.

From a long term point of view these coolant pipes are likely to become more of a problem, i wonder if the firms that produce these silicon hoses for Cosworths etc would produce one offs?

According to the Quinton Hazell catalogue the TD one is unique and different to the non-turbo.

To be honest Ian, I've never had to change a top hose, bottom ones yes, but never top.

I realise that petrol engines get hotter than the diesel and as such may suffer more.
How much are the dealers quoting?

over 40quid for the top hose.

The part Quinten Hazell quote is the correct part as i've confirmed it against PR net so i'll nip down the motor factors and see if they can order me one.

My local motor factors (which is a chain around Derby) had both the top and bottom hoses at their main shop across town from the Quinten Hazel book.

They'll be at my local branch by 4pm today.

I got both for about 30quid.
