Can any of you wise fellows tell me at what temp the fans are meant to start?
At the moment both fans start when the gauge is on about 95 or 100.
Is this the right temp?
The temp sender in the radiator is a three pin unit and only about a year old.

You will find lots of useful information on the 16 valve and other BX in the Haynes manual.
You can download it in English from here:

I think its the top document under BX - the other information is useful too - especially the 2 parts books.

I would expect them to come on at low speed before 95-100. The gauges are not in any way accurate it has to be said.
Do the fans come on when the aircon is working ? This is usually a good indication that the rad cooling circuit is working properly. The temperature they kick in is controlled entirely by the rad thermo switch. Are the connections good? They are a bit corrosion prone.

The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.
