BX rear suspension struts - gaiter needed
BX rear suspension struts - gaiter needed
Hi Guys
The MoT is due in Jan, and most of the car is sound. I have a small worry re: the rear suspension struts.
Whilst I was doing the arms, I noticed that the rubber gaiter at the rear arm end of the strut was damaged. This is the end that the split pin goes in to. There's a small brace on the arm which is bent out of position and has abraded the gaiter.
Apparently it's an MoT failure. Does anyone have a spare gaiter or strut that they can send? Happy to exchange for beer tokens.
Thanks
O

If Oilys suggestion falls through, try the above link. I can't find it on their websire but I had exactly the same problem a few years back and I'm pretty sure AEP supplied the part for me. They are very helpful so give 'em a ring (I spoke to Paul who was more than happy to compare various bits he had on the shelf to help me out with another problem).
You'll have to bend that brace back tho' - I managed it with some steel plates and a bolt to bend it straight again! Good luck...

Gosh, the willingness and goodwill of this forum astonishes me every time.
I've been on a cycling forum a lot over the past few weeks - argumentative contrary bunch of prigs.
Anyway, Adam is scrapping his BX as we mentioned before, so he's going to get them off for me. If they're no good, I'll take up Sleepy's offer.
Thanks guys.
Oscar

I had a similar problem on a BX some time ago, I think the thin bar that sits under the bellows was used to jack up the car, and it had worn a hole in the rubber.
I Made up a metal plate with a hole in the middle, and with a nut and bolt pulled out the distortion on the metal bar.
I mended the hole in the rubber using a strip of bicycle puncture repair patch. Care must be used to remove all the LHM. I think I used white spirit, then methalated spirit.
That repair lasted over 3 years, and was still in place when I sold the car..
Worth a try untill the better weather comes again.

Sorry Oscar, I've been some time responding to Stewart's thread (above) but I got bi replacements from a Citroen dealer. It seems that, through the generosity of spirit of this Club, yet another problem is resolved. Which leaves me with one: how do I get out of cooking for the next week?
Happy seasonal greetings etc to all - and thanks you all for le Club, unddoubtdly the best thing I never joined.
