Stop Solenoid query

Post by jrdpod »

What size socket is required to remove/insert the stop solenoid on the
17RD (1987 model) ?
I understand it differs from the 24mm one common with most automotive
"spark plug" style solenoids.

Many thanks

I resorted to an adjustable spanner to fit these, it can help to have the solenoid "live" when screwing it in, this holds the inner part up inside the body and prevents damage to the tip and it also prevents the thing falling into the hole, on Xantia TDs with the Bosch pump I have resored to a small chisel to avoid a lot of dismantling, my motorfactor carries stop solenoids carded for around £20

i thought it was 24mm, but i guess it could be 23mm tbh as i probably just run the bugger out with the oversize socket! (got below 24, 27, 36, 42mm sockets so its got to be one of them i guess :D )
