Depends entirely on exactly what you've broken off.

If you can host the image somewhere, and then post a link, someone will be able to tell you if it's important or not.

Without seeing it, it's impossible to say, but probably yes :( anything which fits behind the driveshaft oil seal will cause a problem. Like erm Leak

If it's the bit I'm thinking of I may have a spare....

If it's cos you didn't have a 35mm socket to take the driveshaft out I can post you one but it may be worthwhile buying one anyway when considering post costs

The instructions given by ellevie above are all over the forum in various places.

I have received an email with two photo's attached. If they don't appear on the forum, I'll host them myself and display them, but having seen them I can say for sure that the diff side-gear is fooked. Completely. Two functional surfaces are now missing, and it would leak oil as fast as you can pour it in.

Does beg the question as to how on earth you managed to do break it, given that the offside driveshaft practically falls out of the diff.

That gearbox is cattle trucked... that's half the drive dog for the speedo broken off. It also looks to me like all 3 bolts for the shaft output / speedo housing are sheared off flush with the box, but maybe that's just a trick of the light. New diff required at the very least... Bad luck!

It's not behind the seal... it IS the sealing surface.

Hence my earlier statement that the gearbox would loose it's oil as fast as you could pour it in.

Rubber-ducked.

Yes, it will probably drive, but it's almost certainly out of balance, quite possibly bent, and the bearing is probably toast. Not clear from the pics, but it looks like the seal face for the O-ring is damaged too, so I would expect it to leak oil. I'd take up CavMad's offer of a replacement 'box.

One other thought - what do the splines on the end of the shaft look like now.....
