BX restoration project

Post by jrdpod »

Hi all,

For those regulars on the forum, you will already know about my 17RD, D526 WCW.

A pre MOT check revealed work required which would be better done with the car SORNed, rather than just patched up for another MOT pass.

As I have another BX to use as an everyday car, I've decided to take the former path.

My provisional schedule of works is as follows:

Structural:
Repair rear sub frame mounts. Remove and replace subframe after repairs.
Repair front n/s inner wing.
Renew sills.
Replace drivers door.
Repair A Posts, remove/replace windscreen.
Repair rear o/s dent.
Waxoil/underseal body underside.
Other welding as required.

Cosmetic:
Renew interior.
General external tidy up, with respray as neccessary.
Repair bumpers.

Mechanical:
Overhaul or replace engine.
Steam clean engine bay and body underside.
Secure loose hydraulic pipes and general check.
Replace missing cover on rear o/s brake drum.

Electrical.
Remove redundant alarm and audio wiring.
Repair failed panel lights and switches.
Replace front wiper motor.

Thats the basic scheme of things, other things could crop up as I progress.

Rough time estimate: 2 years.

Rough cost estimate: No budget as such, but probably up to £1K.

I'll keep you posted.

Regards
John Podgorski/jrdpod.

Christ, I didn't realise it was that intense! Thats nearly a new car.

I can see why others suggest calling it a day....many would. But if you pull that off you'll be pushing the doc for legend status...although you'd need to complete it all within a weekend to do that

I thought those 17 n/a's were the rarest BX? except the 4x4's of course.
