Cavmad does technical! Auto box problem solved!

Post by cavmad »

With thanks for the info on parts numbers etc I`ve sorted the niggly fault on the autobox cable.
Two parts, one £4.25+Vat and one at £6.19+Vat (both genuine Citroen parts) did the job.
First of was removing the 13mm nylock nut which holds the small bracket c/w `ball` assembly on. came off nice and easy and behind this was a washer, also came off without too much trouble.
I found the only way to get the bracket off was to move the assembly (bracket and ball) to the position nearest the windscreen, most likely 1st gear on the autobox as it needs to be lined up.
Once this was done the bracket came straight off and the new assembly was put in place. It`s easier to tighten the 13mm nut up in the highest position incidentally as this stops it from trying to turn when you`re doing the nut up.

The little `cup` piece has on a screw on thread which easily goes on the end of the cable, and as above was very easy to remove. Refitted that bit last and it pushed on with a satisfying click and seems to stay nicely in position, unlike the old one which kept jumping off when the gearlever was moved to the park position and mean fiddling around under the bonnet and getting caked in oil etc.

Upon removal and examination of the old `cup` it was found the plastic `seal` had worn away and was most likely culprit for it jumping off.

Ten minute job start to finish without trying to rush anything and have cleaned the area up around the `repair` in case it does jump ship again.
Not much of a job by anyone else`s standards by I`m chuffed to bits I`ve managed to do it and for the small price of the parts compared to the aggro of having to pop the bonnet everytime the car was turned off it seems worth it to me!

Well done Billy --- it's always satisfying when you fix something yourself, not to mention the money you save.
