Stalling solved?

Post by toddao »

I've been trying to cure the uphill stalling issues that have afflicted the old diesel.
Firstly cleaned the filter til I found a new one. Fitted that plus a new priming head. Problems persisted - always going uphill.
Spoke to a variety of Citroen heads but no new ideas. Suggestion that the housing of the filter was perhaps not sealed and was letting in air was considered. Even located an original Purflux unit as a complete replacement..

Now, seem to have cracked it. Problem was mused upon by the local Citroen guru - he then deduced that it had to be water in the tank with its angle related stalling. Dumped a load of special cleaner ( I don't know what it does to the water?) in the tank and drove around a bit. It's fine so far.. I keep my fingers crossed that we've got it.

Maybe this is helpful for someone else ? Don't know if it's common

My old GTI/TD used to fill up the filter with water, never did find out where it came from, I used to use various productscalled pump saver, or dry fuel, mostly methanol I think.
