Any ideas to the above and what does higher revving mean for the state of the car. I.e. at 70mph in 5th i'm doing 32k to 35k revs!

Because it has shorter gearing. The N/A's have shorter gears to aid acceleration as they don't have quite as much grunt as the TD's. Although the gearing is probably the same, and the final drive is probably more likely to be different.

But it really shouldn't be doing 32,000 to 35,000rpm.....thats a sign something is wrong.

I'd forgotten how low geared normal TD's are, mine pulls 2400rpm at 70, at 3500 rpm it's well over a tonne :D
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

35,000 RPM at 70? Your clutch is slipping
Normally, they are only doing 3,500.

Post by Numptychucker »

Only 10 items though
1.Horn not working (fixed tonight)
2. Nearside front velocity joint gaiter split
3. Nearside front suspension joint excessive play in a track control arm inner buch
4. Nearside front tyre tread (knew this already)
5. Offside front tyre tread (Knew this already)
6. Parking brake lever has no reserve travel (fixed tonight)
7. Nearside rear brake reacording little or no effort ( think seized due to left standing)
8. Offside rear brake reacording little or no effort ( think seized due to left standing)
9. offside front parking brake recording little or no effort (fixed tonight)
10. Parking brake efficency below requirements

Anyone see anything that would be a cause of concern? i think i can sort the rear brakes myself thanks to Vanny!

Item 11 gives cause for concern.

The nut behind the steering wheel

I take it you never checked over the car beforhand. This to me seems totally senseless.

The main item to worry about I'd think is item 3, the inner joint on the suspension track control arm. I take it he mean the inner joint on the steering rack. Can be done but not easy I think.

Mmm could be, but which is the inner? normally it's the rear and that would figure.

Hey guys

Yeah thanks for that
The car was sent in on a whim as i had fixed many other things but due to time constraints i needed to get a basic brekdown oif what needed doing.

Now i will be up all night worrrying about bushes, both inner and outer :o
Oh well as Vanny says anything can be repaired or replaced on a bx. Its just the time and £ that worrys me! and thats even before i tackle the gear box issues!!

If it is the wishbone bushes, easiest way is to simply change the whole piece.
