The good news, the car is still there with both front struts and spheres in tact

Thats sound, are the rear arms & bearings worth nabbing as well?? seeing as i've got to buy 4 arm kits & especially on the Gti i've got no idea what the condition of the rear arms are, they may be furbar.....

The rear arms are in the boot of the car, one has a dodgy wheel bearing and the other has a dodgy arm bearing.

Is it worth getting the bits i need to resurect them, or should i not bother? anything to save a few quid...

Thanks to Ken for taking me to the scrappy today so that i could nab both struts, decided to take the spheres as well, so £30 all in, not bad. Fitted replacement strut & hurrah, no more groaning noises (except those coming from me

).

Ken weaved his magic & found that it was a bust wire in the driver side door that was causing the psgr front window from not working. So after much effor we managed to thread the new wire through the rubber trunking (trunking is short for absolute git) & now got a working window.....

Cheers Ken for all your help today, one day i may be able to return the favour....

Noticed that the brake disc on the drvr side was scored, hence the squeeling sound, will have to check the other side as well. Not sure what could have caused that as they were brand new pads & discs fitted???

Is it recommended to replace the rear wheel bearings whilst doing the rear arm kit as well? Only reason for asking is that if the rear arms are leaning, doesnt this place more pressure on the rear wheel bearings & that will wear them out also?

If it is best doing them, does anyone know where some cheap one's can be purchased for an ABS equipped car as they appear to be quite expensive?

The rear wheel bearings are REALLY hard wearing on BX's mate, unless there is discernable play in them, I wouldn't worry about changing them, just lift the dust cap off every now and then and hoof some lube in there to keep them good.

ABS rear hubs are getting very expensive and VERY hard to get hold of....

Hmm, i think i may have found a source for some cheap one's so i think i will buy some just incase, just need to check that they are ABS one's....
