Leaky wiper spray bar

Post by Kitch »

When I go round corners ever so slightly faster than would be deemed 'steady', my wiper rail leaks washer fluid all over the place. Wouldn't bother me, but my car doesn't get driven daily and the washer fluid is a bit grubby.....it's dirtier than the screen!

My question is, has anyone else had this problem and did you find a cure?!

Cheers!

 Knew that was coming

Seriously though, I don't have to be going all that fast. Bascially any corner I take faster than what is considered to be dawdling, it takes a piss on my windscreen :(

The problem is caused by the car being designed LHD. The reservoir for the front is intentionally on the right (as you sit in the driver's seat) of the car. That way the tank and the sprayer on a LHD car, when the wiper is parked, are in roughly the same place, and it won't dribble.

On a RHD car, the problem is amplified, as the tank is still on the right, but the spraybar is on the left now, so in right-handers, it can dribble out.

The fix is to swap the tanks around. Make the tank on the left the one for the front screen, and the one on the right the one for the rear screen. Would require some re-plumbing of the front-to-rear pipe, and some messing about with the electrics, but would fix the problem.

Alternatively, as Stuart has done, make your wiper park on the right.

Hmm excellent. Thanks to all for the good advice.

Makes sense what you're saying there David. I might actually try the valve, which is something that had crossed my mind already but I know very little on them. If that fails, I'll switch the tanks over....what a good idea!

Cheers
