Does anyone know where you can buy camshaft oil seals for the distributor side? Ive asked GSF and AEP autoparts, and called two local shops, both of which are closing down due to lack of business so wouldn't help me. I want to cover all angles, so will buy the rocker cover gasket and dipstick too.
I have searched for a dipstick to, but no luck so far. There is now way the car will pass an MOT with the amount of oil its leaking, and I certainly wont be happy about passing it on to Stuart like this. Is it just the inner bit of the dipstick that leaks? I have to admit, it doesn't seal too well and appears to have a damaged plastic bit at the top so that could well be the culprit.
Cheers, Adam.
Oil Leak and new dipstick parts?
I'm sure Citroen can supply the camshaft seals - possibly at a reasonable price. If they're impossible - get the seal out and take it to a specialist bearing supplier who can probably match it.
If you remove the filler cap with the engine running and hot - do you choke on the fumes? If so the engine is worn and you are suffering from excessive blowby and it'll leak from everywhere whatever you do. It doesn't mean it'll blow up soon, just that its tired and won't be at its best.

Umm. Thanks for the tips. I looked in the engine parts and gaskets/oil seals etc for dipsticks. Ill call them and ask instead. Im pretty sure the engine has very good compression. It starts well and goes like a rocket and never smokes, not even slightly. I do get a bit of fumes when opening the oil filler cap but if I cup my hand over it the overall effect is suction as far as I can tell, but then I suppose that could be very different under acceleration which is when most of the oil gets dumped. I lived with this for the time I had the car, but now its really bad. In fact when I drove the donor car off from the old owners house I decided to stop at the services to check the oil as I had stupidly forgot. I topped it up as it was hardly registering on the dipstick, and by the time I got home, it had all gone. I replaced the two crankshaft oil seals and the one camshaft seal, and now I know why I never did the other one! So all seals were leaking, but the ones I did replace seem to be working now, although its hard to tell with an engine covered in oil. I had heard that you could shorten the spring inside the seal and apply some sealant on the outside to make the lips press harder etc..
