HELP!!! With bx tzi leaks and other stuff.

Post by bigmarkbx »

I will shortly be taking over a one owner 1988 tzi estate only done 46000 miles.
But it has a hydraulic leak from the bottom left side of engine bay.Can any one help?I need sugestions for a citroen specialist salisbury/bournemouth as my usual garages expert is away for a while.Must be reasonably priced as money is bit tight at the moment
I also wondered what size wheels and tyres have been fitted to estates as standard size seems a bit narrow.
Thanks all bigmark.

Sounds like it might be a return pipe, or the FDV or the Octopus... Either way someone's going to have to get their hands dirty as at that age, there is likely to be a fair amount of perishing and splitting of rubber to consider. A nice, rare model though - a GTi estate, in effect. Fun and practical.

As for the wheels/tyres all estates had 165/60 R14 rubber. You can fit 175's on the rims OK. You'll need to consider 5.5" GTi alloys or GTi steels if you want 185 rubber.

I think your TZi is the same as a TRi - but in any event my Glass technical data book (highly reliable - the Turbo-diesel is listed with vacuum servo brakes) states that the standard BX 19 tyre size is 165 70 x 14 and the GTi / TRi as 185 60 x 14.which sounds more appropriate.

Most BX have simple steel disc wheels with no decoration/ventilation ho,es. I know that some GTi's have wheels with holes round the disc - and it may be that they are wider than the plain ones. The dimensions may be written in the centre - somewhere around the bolts - the width will look something like 5J - the figure being the width in INCHES and the letter standing for the profile of the rim itself.
