Balljoints

Post by leemil »

Hi Everyone, New here.
Quick question for you all, can anyone tell me what the large thread size & type the balljoint has? As I have a need
to tap a thread to allow me to fit the balljoint.

Also, I need to know dimensions & size of the taper shaft part of the balljoint.

If anyone knows, I'd be very grateful, or indeed where I can get the info from.

Many Thanks, & fingers crossed.
Cheers, Lee.

ball joints are £6 so i'd buy one and take measurements from it.

If your actually considering taping the bottom of the hub carrier youd be better off getting another carrier as they aren't the greatest material!

Hi All, thanks for the replies.
What I have is a set of balljoints that I am going to use in a custom application, I am making up a set of custom wishbones for my project,
using a hub from another car which fits the taper part, but I need to make custom holders/carriers that the balljoints will screw into.
If someone can post pics on my behalf, I can email a couple over to explain a bit more clearly.

Cheers, Lee.

Welcome leemil. Posting pics is pretty straightforward...

1) Go to www.photobucket.com and register for free.
2) Follow their instructions to upload your picture from your computer.
3) Copy the link to your picture by clicking on the "IMG Code" link under your picture in Photobucket.
4) Click on the "post reply" button on this BXclub thread.
5) Paste the link into your reply.
6) Check that it works ok by clicking "preview".

Hope this helps.
David

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a balljoint with a seriously ripped gaiter.

The balljoint itself seems fine, but citroën don't seem to sell the gaiter separately. Anybody know if they can be found ?

I've never found a source for buying the rubber gaiter separately, although it should be possible to use a decent gaiter from an otherwise knackered balljoint......a sort of "reverse-fix" :D

Try a small accessory shop - they have all manner of things - some in bubble packs and some loose.

What's a small accessory shop, Jeremy ? Sounds very nice, I wish there was one around here.

For me, I'm afraid it's going to be the scrapyard...

Wow that was quick, perfect.
Hope this makes it all clearer about what I am trying to do.
The suspension & wishbones are from a freinds car, but its the same thing that I am trying to do but using the BX balljoint.
I have a hub that has a tapered fit hole on the bottom, but need to have a tapped holder in the bottom wishbone for the
balljoint to screw into, where as for the top mounting I also need to make an adaptor which also has the taper fit to bolt to the top of the hub.

Hmmmm, dont know if that makes it any clearer than mud!!
Think I'll have to knock up a drawing to see.

I presume theres a special tool like a long reach socket type thing with castleations/teeth that you use to screw these in with.

Cheers for the help so far.
Lee.
