Door card/panel removal

Post by ed4ferrets »

Not exactly technical but I am battling to remove a front door card. All torx screws removed and the usual unclipping of the card successful but it wont come away from the door in one place! Problem area is sort of midway up the front part where the wiring goes into the door. I've removed cards in the past but don't recall encountering this before :?

one at the top and two under the speaker cover, can't see any more but it won't move midway up the plastic moulding! :x

3 torx screws holding the door handle on, 2 in the speaker housing behind the grille, one plastic clip round the door mirror and then lift the door card up as you take it off to slide it off the window moulding grove.

Yep - 4 screws holding the speaker - leave these in place. 2 others in this compartment holding the card - IIRC.

Some of the plastic retainers can hold really tight. You need a special tool ensuring you dont break the card then. The tool is a wide-blade screwdriver with a 5mm slit cut in the middle of the blade.
With this tool you can lever the card exactly at the point where the retainer is located.

Thanks guys, it must be a stubborn retainer clip then ... I've applied quite a bit of force to it already, to the extent that I thought the moulding would break  . Time for plan B .... whatever that is

Plan B:
Pull...HARD.
If that fails, Hammer, of the large variety, I have spare plastic covers, so if you break it, it can be replaced!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Plan B worked, didn't need the big persuader after all 8)

Needless to say the white clip thingy did not survive the experience but the plastic cover is intact, thanks Doc!
