Well due to me landing a new job as a car/commecial valeter etc i have come to the point where i now need to fit a tow bar to the blue bx gti to tow the trailer with the valeting gear in. Now i hate tow bars but i have to fit one. Firstly when bolting one on do you have to drill the boot floor?? ( one of my hates because this is where rear end corrosion starts to set in )
i know how to connect the electrics but would rather bring the wire through one of the plastic grommits in the boot floor??.
so A, are they easy to fit without ruining the back of a perfect car
and B, Does anyone have one for sale??

Rob,
If you fit a genuine towbar it's relatively easy and there's no need to drill anything. All of the holes are already there for you.
I'm about to fit one to my TZI and is very simple.
I saw one on ebay that is still running but it is pickup only and it's not genuine. My advice is to get a genuine one because it just fits. Also the wiring is simply a matter of pushing the loom through a grommet in the boot floor and connecting it up to the back of the tail light.
Took me a long time to find one but no doubt you will find one over there with ease.

Alan,
That towbar is non genuine and looks really dodgy!
The real one looks much better and i'm sure will fit much better.
I can get you the part number of it if you wish but it'll be on Sunday.

Looks a hell of a lot better than a couple of towbars I've seen fitted to cars here in the UK. Some of them only bolt on to the thin drop panel where the lashing eyes are, about 20cm in either side just behind the rear bumper.m_2975 wrote:That towbar is non genuine and looks really dodgy!
TBH if you need a towbar fairly quickly, they can be fabricated with relative ease. I've made towbar brackets for a number of cars I've owned over the years.

Maybe but they just look like amateurish home jobs!
I know i'm a perfectionist about this kind of stuff but look the the genuine and look at the crap on the links.
No holder for the electrics, no twist hooks for the trailer chains, nothing!
Not even a Citroën badge!

Most towbar brackets don't have these. The electrics usually mount on a plate sandwiched between the ball and the bracket, and the breakaway chain goes wherever you can put it.m_2975 wrote:No holder for the electrics, no twist hooks for the trailer chains, nothing!
The "Genuine" BX bar seems to be a bit advanced for its time.

Well I suppose I am just spoilt then because i've never seen a towbar other than one with all of those things attached. Dunno if it's illegal here in Australia to have anything less.
It is a Citroën towbar, of couse it's going to be ahead of it's time
Here's one fitted with the special Australian towball bracket fitted. Looks good IMHO.
