I don't think your problem comes from the height corrector, sleepy.

I had a similar problem on an estate I recently saved from the scrapyard. The ride height was OK, but the front had no intermediate position, it just shot up to the maximum. The reason was that there are in fact two adjustments : the collar and, as AlanS says, the linkage, and they both have to be spot on for the system to work.

The confusing thing is that it is quite possible to counteract a bad collar adjustment by a bad linkage adjustment (and vice-versa obviously) and obtain a perfect normal ride height. However, other positions will be screwed up, in your case the intermediate one.

You should be able to tell if this is the case by playing with the selector : if you feel any spring resistance at the normal driving position, the adjustments are out. Normally, there should be some free play at this position, and only at this one.
