BX 4x4 exhaust system

Post by Brian King »

I could probably count on the fingers of one mitten how many people will be interested in this topic. I should probably have written to all two of them personally. Anyway, here goes. I am now the official keeper of a complete exhaust system off a BX 4x4. It is not for sale, nor will I be using it on my own 4x4, but it is a good pattern if anyone wants a new whole or part system to be made up . I am bracing myself for the rush.

It'd probably be worth asking about in the CCC and any European BX clubs Brian, I bet someone would like a pattern part one made. I'm told these are horribly expensive to buy new if you were ever lucky enough to come across one.

Isn't it just cheaper to get a full stainless steel one made up rather than faffing round with mild steel one's?

The choice of stainless or mild steel is up to the person wanting to use the one I've got for a pattern. Stainless would be my own choice but I'm not making the decision for them.

Why do you need a pattern? a straight through one would be best wouldn't it?

it still has to go around all the moving bits under the car and avoid things like axle tubes, propshaft etc.

Plus you have to get the boxes and hangers in the correct place, tail pipe in the correct place etc.

BX 4x4 exhaust system

The obvious route for the exhaust (straight down the middle) is not possible on the 4x4 because that space is taken up by the prop shaft. Hence the complication.

Didnt realise , mind u any decent custom made exhaust supplier should be able to design one, but i guess it would be a lot easier & quicker with a pattern to copy....

BX 4x4 exhaust system

The pattern exhaust is the result of Citroen having done all the tricky design work and put the hangars in place ready to use. Hence my offer.

Hello Brian King,
really good idea to ask for an aftermarket exhaust (group buy) and offering your's as pattern!

I forward your idea to German IG BX :
http://www.bxig.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5127

Could I add your email adress in no spam 'secuity' layout with *AT* as @? theking*AT*ernekdotco.uk so that the IG BX guys need not to register in UK forum?

I need no 4WD exhaust and I forgot the exactly shape of the tube. IIRC the silencer pots could be replaced by simple 2WD BX or similar items (AX for the small ones??).
I'd recomend just to copy the tubes to make the system affordable. If it would be possible just to connect/combine OEM/aftermarket mild steel silencers with your new designed tubes. I guess even welding & grinding a little bit would be worth to do if a complete 4x4 exhaust could be avoided.
I'd also try to add the hangers as seperated parts so that they could be used with easy to get OEM parts.
My last idea is to consider Break (10-15cm longer tail of pipe) and Sedan setup in one unit.

I wish the best for such a helpful project.

bx 4x4 exhaust

Post by Brian King »

Well, congratulations on bravely battling with English, especially on a semi-technical subject. But I'm not quite sure what you are driving at. Do you have a need or 'no need' of a 4x4 exhaust? Secondly you are welcome to mention in your country that I have a 4x4 exhaust system that can be used as a pattern. But at this moment I am not thinking of re-manufacturing it for a whole group of people because I am not aware of the existence of such a group. Are you? Lastly I ought to say that the exhaust came from Ian Fearn from whom I bought my own 4x4. I am simply keeping it dry at the moment.

Hello Brian King

personally I don't need a 4x4 exhaust sytsem since I have none (as my signature says).
I'd like just to bring people together to keep those rare and powerfiul 4x4 alive.

I got the adress of the French (near Paris?) company.
http://amg93.com
Would be fine if anyone could confirm the source (who is able to read/write French).

I guess the most important BX 4x4 part is the special gear box shaft. Maybe there is also a company out there who is manufacturing a small series of the improved Pug 405 4x4 release.

Hi 4x4 guys,
update: At http://www.auspuff.com you could order IMASAF silencer. A German told us front pot EUR 85, rear silencer EUR 170 (sedan).
