Mine keeps splitting at the top where the union bolts in to the FDV. Am I doing it up too tight or something?
I'm guessing it's something I'm doing wrong because it always splits in the same place (on the right hand side as you look at it).

You know about the basics :
Before the pipe is torqued on the unions and retainers, it MUST be carefully corrected in all bends to fit EXACTLY in the pipe ports and towards the retainer clip seating points - to avoid strains on the pipe.
Its known that a later production series of these pipes are more likely to split, than earlier series. Why - I dont know. Could be a different material composite, variations in wall thickness (my favorite) or lack of retaining clips.
The original retaining clips are steel with rubber inserts. I've seen later pipes with nylon retainers - no good.

Hi Kitch
I agree with Anders the alignment and the support clips are critical.
Also check that the valve itself is secure and that both bolts are fitted and tight.
I had one of these pipes split exactly where you said your's went.
And when i fitted the new one i made up some metal support clips and rubber inserts using some of the metal strapping you find on large packing crates and some fuel hose.
If the alignment is right and the valve is secure and you fit the support clips you should be ok.
Good luck!
Regards Kermit

as Kermit says you must make sure the F/V is secure also the same goes for the regulator, and with this short pipe there is no need for any other support, althought there is with all of the longer pipes
