Head Replacement

Post by kiwi »

Thinking seriously now of getting the ead Gasket replaced on the 19TZS.

JUST IN CASE

Has anyone used a head from a BX16 on a 19? Thinking differant engines etc but the head is it the same? This is just as a back up in case there is corrosion and a head replacement is needed.

Basically the heads are the same - such you can swap over.

But details are different like valve diameter, valve lifts and cam axle timing. I dont think you can predict what effect this will have - unless you have the exact detailed specs on both heads for comparison.
These specs follow the engine code label, which is the D2A, DDZ etc type code.

Basically you will end up with an engine which have specs similar to the cylinder head donor engine, since the block and pistons are much the same - exept for the stroke which makes for either the 1.6 or 1.9 total volume.

So what information do you need to make a valid idea of the effects.

To be honest I am not worried in the slightest if I end up with a 1600 engine, the rings on the 16 engine are shot or may well be from a Compression test that showed 80 in one cylinder and 170 in the others and it did drink a bit of oil.

Considering the rising cost of fuel a 1600 would be more than acceptable than buyiing a whole new car. Which would probably be a 16 anyways.

A 16 head moved to a 19 engine block would probably end up having much the same power as the original 19 engine - less a few Bhp's.
My estimate is that the increased volume by the stroke overrules much whats done by the head swapping ...
This holds true the other way around too, as the DEcreased volume by stroke will rule.

I'd say you will end up with an engine pretty close to the original - either way you swap.
There will of course be necessary trimming/adjsuting of the vcarb to match the exact conditions. Above all the idle mixture is important for your roadworthy test.
