Will this HP pump fit my TD?

Post by TB2 »

Hi,

I'm not sure if I really need to replace the HP pump (I'll try replacing the front spheres and the accumulator first) but my ticktime is around 1-2 seconds and now I spotted a great bargain on ebay:

But the seller says it's for a "Citroen BX 14 after ET-OrgaNr. 4193" (4193 would be 5/2/1988). I have a 1989 TD. I read in another thread that the pumps don't fit other models because of the mounting and the directions the pipes go, but if I can actually buy that pump for 30 Euros I'm fine with modfying the mounting so it would fit.
What about the pressure, aren't there differences?

Any chance this pump would fit? Unfortunately the auction will end this evening, so I'm in a bit of a hurry, too...

Thanks...
Carl

I don't think this'll do - the mountings and connections for petrol and diesel cars differ. Also, I woldn't be surprised to find out that a BX14 of either engine type is completely diffferent in this respect from the 16/19 petrol models.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

The chances are the pulley could also be a different size.

However, I doubt the pump will have anything to do with your tick time. More than likely be your accumulator sphere.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Your BX TD uses the exact same HP pump type as the BX D.

No other pump types fits the BX D/TD.
Not even the BX 16V or later CX types that looks very similar and are fitted in the same location - over the g/b - fits your BX D/TD.

Ah... short tick time. As usual Anders has pointed out the first sensible move to make - and he'd be a millionaire by now if 30 CENTS was a going rate for sensible suggestions.

Eurocarparts were doing a remarkably cheap line in accumulators a while back if you're UK-based. If it's not an accumulator problem, and not a loosely-tightened screw on the the pressure regulator, then look at the BX DIY site to find out how to check LHM return rates and draw sensible conclusions about possible causes.

If the finger points to the doseur valve then prepare to be bankrupted by the number of different opinions you'll get at 30 Euros a pop...

a tick time of 1 - 2 seconds is extremely short and does make me wonder if the problem is something like the ball bearing under the bleed screw is missing.

The bleed screw should never be removed - just slackened 1 1/2 turns max to release pressure. The reason its should never be removed is - that the ball bearing falls out and gets lost.

The release ball bearing is 7mm and the non-return ball bearing is 6mm. Any hard steel ball bearing of the correct size will do (bicycle?)
