TWO SUMP PLUGS?
TWO SUMP PLUGS?
Changed the oil and filter on the GT today, it has 2 sump plugs?, both the same, directly above each other! How odd is that, the engine fitted is from a car that originally had a/c, would that make a difference.
Indeed it would, as cars with air conditioning have a cast Aluminium sump. Which in turn has mounting lugs for the air conditioning compressor.
Cast aluminium sumps have a second hole tapped in the sump for an oil temperature sensor, in your case the engine was out of a car without the oil temperature sensor option, hence this is blanked off with another sump plug as the thread diameter and pitch are identical.
You will also see the addition tapped hole in steel sumps when fitted to BX GTi 8v and 16V cars as these are fitted with an oil temp sensor as standard.
