Car conked out today whilst on the way to work, nice & convenient that, luckily i was near a petrol station. So i managed to restart the car & put some fuel in & then it worked fine, so continued to work.
Got back home after work today without any probs, but pulled out the tank filter again, & again it was covered in a golden residue, so no fuel was being sucked up again....
Changed the fuel filter as a precaution, it didn't seem to have much crud in it compared to normal???
Would it be safe to remove the tank filter to allow the crap to collect in the fuel filter as this is a lot easier & quicker to sort out than doing the tank one!!!
Or could this cause potential problems elsewhere? Bear in mind that this golden residue melts under hot water, so presume if it did make it as far as the pump, the heat would melt it anyway??
Any advice on this gratefully received.

You potentially could clog & block your front to back lines if you do this and they will remain cold. The filter is doing its job to stop the crud going through.MULLEY wrote: Would it be safe to remove the tank filter to allow the crap to collect in the fuel filter as this is a lot easier & quicker to sort out than doing the tank one!!!

These alternative fuels seem problematic then or do you think it was because of the particular compound that you mixed?

Not sure if my mix of 50% derv, 10% veg & 40% bio caused the problem, it shouldht have!!! My conclusion on this debacle after speaking to the biodiesel place was that it was a faulty batch of fuel from them that's caused the problem.
They had to recycle approx 32,000 litres due to unknown contamination, some other customers had apprently been suffering clogged filters as well....
I even pre-filtered their stuff & caught a load of residue in the filter, needless to say i didnt put that in the tank!!!! & that was the stuff they said was ok????
The crud in the tank is a little different, the consistency & the way it looks isnt the same as found in the fuel filter, however, the bio diesel could have reacted with the veg oil somehow?
When i was using 90% derv & 10% veg i had no problems whatsover, so i wont be using biodiesel anytime soon.
Anyone else experience similar issues by using alternative fuels?

I know Sleepy had problems with bio-diesel and vowed never to use it again.
A BX that Shaune has just bought was filled to the brim with this stuff and that was running bad. Now it only splutters a bit when cold, but we're thinking possible injector or pump damage.
So no, I won't be using it.

They think it's all over, it is now!
