GSF Quality?

Post by Way2go »

I am surprised by the poor quality ie perishing of my strut return pipes bought from GSF 2 years ago.
One of the sides broke last year and I replaced it.
Checking the other side yesterday it is covered in perishing crazes.

Considering the original returns lasted 10+ years, this seems ridiculous.

What have you experienced in GSF goods compared to other offerings? :?

GSF local to me don't know the difference between an 8v and a 16v - particularly when recently they absolutely insisted I needed Bosch FR5DCX plugs for my 16v. Those are OK for an 8v I suggested, but I was sure the 16v used different ones. "Oh no, mate" (not at all patronising  :D )...

But generally, for service items seem OK.

I must be quite lucky down here in worthing my local GSF manager used to work in a Citroen dealership in the parts department and he could not be more helpful.
he knows most of the BX part numbers from memory.
he even lets me have trade discount on most of the parts except special order which is fair enough.

Regards Kermit :) :)

I'm sure you really mean OEM and a cheaper pattern one. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Pattern rubber components are notorious for being poor quality, as the rubber is often "diluted" with an amount of foam. OEM rubber components are worth the extra cash.

Pipes that perish in 2 years are not really fit for purpose whatever type was supplied. The short answer to your question is that they did not offer a choice.

ps: OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

What more expensive ones? :? even on their website no such thing is listed. There is only one shown and a clip for it. The second return pipe listed at higher cost is an OCTOPUS!

And I take offence at that condescending remark about asking nicely to be sold something more expensive in a motor factors! This may be rip-off Britain but you don't issue an invitation to be mugged at every turn.

I only tend to use GSF for service items now, although since they dont even stock TOTAL oils anymore I doubt I'll bother using them at all.

Here in Brizzle the three year olds behind the counter just DO NOT listen to what you're telling them.
You can give them a long list of things you want, complete with the part numbers.
Understandably enough they rarely have everything in stock so you go back a day or two later to collect big box of bits, only to discover it's all wrong because they are more interested in selling stick on plastic crap for Saxo's than hearing a long list of weird stuff including octopus's.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Way2Go, take a bleedin chill pill, no offence was intended i was joking.

You are quite correct, GSF NOW does only show the copy, last year it showed 2, they have obviously run out of stock or werent selling any so now only sell the cheapo one.

Well Mulley, I'm sure if you had started this thread regarding poor quality parts from a supplier and someone inferred that it was your fault for letting them sell you cr*p gear then you would not be seeing it as a joke either! Couple that with your posts containing misinformation anyway, it didn't contribute anything positive to the thread at all.

I enjoy a joke along with many so although any humour was missed here I just put this down to your own sense of humour then.

i made absolutely no inferrence that you had been sold crap goods, you've assumed thats what i meant, which i didnt. I did buy the exact same items, so i would hardly be in a position of superiority would i??

Misinformation, shit, i got oem fucked up & because i've already bought the parts how was i to know that they now only stock 1 instead of 2?

I'm sure i've said this a number of times on this forum, its quite easy to type something out & someone reads it the completely wrong way.

I've already apologised once, upto you if you dont want to accept it, never had a problem with you so have absolutely no reason to see why i would have any issues in the future....

All this over a couple of bits of rubber piping, quite funny really...

Either way, it would seem we are both buggered by poor quality parts which until you posted this i wasnt even aware of, so thanks for the info & i'll be checking mine a bit more frequently rather than thinking they would last as long as the originals...

If i start contributing anything positive to future threads, that i would call progress on my part , i'm no expert, i just like these cars (sometimes)....

Cheers for the part number Jon, i think when GSF were selling them they were about £1.50 more than the cheapo version, but seeing as i bought 5 with the straps, i thought i would save a few quid, doh!!! if i had know they might perish that quickly, i would have gotten the proper one's....

I wonder how much citroen would want from you, for them now???

Anybody bought any recently? direct from citroen...

In DK the Citroen parts price is the equivalent of approx £18.50 ex vat, while the clip is some £4.25 ex vat.
