Tensioner

Evening Guy's,

i purchased a timing belt tensioner for my 1990 Gti 8valve ages ago from GSF, on examining it this weekend, its exactly the same as the one for the diesel that i purchased at a different time....

Can someone reassure me that i have got the correct one for the Gti??

If not, can somone direct me to a place where i can buy one please.

You have got either two diesel tensioners or two petrol tensioners.
The diesel one has a long bracket and pivots on a bolt below the pulley just below half way down.
Got any pics ?

The one for the diesel model looks like the upper right one on this picture:

Until RP5545 the tensioner on XU 8valves is the 3point sliding bracket fitted roller (0829.12).
The XUD/TD tensioner (0829.11) is fitted on an angled bracket.

From RP5546 on its the simple excentric fitted roller (0829.29) for the XU 8valves.
The TU exentric tenioner (0829.54) is slightly different and wont fit the XU.
The valver uses yet a third different type of excentric tensioner 0829.20

Checked the paperwork an i have an RP no of 5124.

It would appear that i have the upper right one in the piccy (cheers TB2), i'll double check the other one to make sure.

Any ideas on where i can get hold of the correct one (0829.12) as per Anders info??? Please dont say citroen, i cant afford mega bucks (any ideas on price?)....

So the one i need looks like the diesel one, but its a slightly different shape?

Looks like i'll have to put off getting the cambelt done as it looks like i dont have the correct part & wont have time to source one.....

Now I'm absolutely not sure about this, but could it be that the GTI 8V one should look like this?

As Anders said "the tensioner on XU 8valves is the 3point sliding bracket fitted roller".

I got the pic from a Swiss online shop (where I live) and it's listed under "19 GTi" (non 16V) and both motor codes "DKZ (XU9JA)" and "D6A (XU9J2)". It also says "until 12.1990". I know this is most likely not much help to you, but the part is available here, the manufacturer is called "TRISCAN" and it costs approx. 32 GBP. So I guess it should be available somewhere in the UK.

GSF, Euro car parts, Quintin Hazell, they all sell them.
GSF Bristol has one on the shelf right now.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Carparts direct do a cambelt kit for the BX - in fact many kits for different BX engines - presumably a good belt - tensioners and water pump but I have no direct knowledge of the contents.

I suspect that would be a Dayco belt and good quality idlers / tensioners.
I've bought a few complete kits from them now.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Bloody hell :lol: i've struck lucky, had a search today for both tensioners, only found the one, & its as per the piccy above, phew!!!

Now, where is my diesel one?

Many thanks for everyone's input & posting of piccies, it makes it so much easier to have visuals....

At least i can get the cambelt done now, however, i reckon its going to fail the mot on the exhaust, thats deffo one area i spotted which is mega rusty & was pissing water out when i ran the car, near to a join, so might be able to get garage to do a quick repair, or i'll get a replacement on the net.....
