Peugot 306 n/a 1.9 diesel: same motor as my BX?

Post by cavmad »

Just spotted a (potentially) cheap 306 1.9 n/a diesel with a knackered engine. Seeing as how my 1.9 BX diesel won`t be much use to me pretty soon I wondered if the engines were a direct swap?
Anyone able to shaed any light on this I would be most gateful, thanks.

should be a straight swap i think you may need to change the camshaft and the crank pulley :?

Thanks, going to keep an eye on the bidding. It`ll need to be cheap as no MOT or tax

Yup! Straight Swap just an issue with cam shafts..

I fitted a 205 engine into a 306 so I think these units can jump from one to the other!!

Depends what year your BX is.

Early models had the Square-port 65hp engine, with a branch-type inlet manifold. Later models have the 72hp oval port engine with the multi-pipe inlet manifold and 4-branch airbox on top.

The 306 will (fairly obviously) need the later engine.

Rather than breaking your BX diesel, would you be interested in a swap for a complete good-condition 72hp 1.9D engine ready to go (from a 405, so no problems with correct brackets etc)?

I keep wondering what to do with it David but I`ll probably find somewhere to keep it as the one I should be getting is exactly the same model in exactly the same colour so I`ll have all the spares I should need for a while.
Also my current one has lots of good parts on it including the front struts which are the best I`ve ever known.
If I get stuck I`d probably either cash the tax back and sell the car complete or spend a couple of weeks stripping everything possible off it and weighing the rest in but hopefully it won`t come to that.
Thanks for the offer though.
