Bosch TD injection pump

Post by Jaba »

I am struggling to get info on the Bosch pump.
I have posted in For Sale / Wanted for a replacement cold start module :
http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8701

But, assuming I get, one how do I adjust it ?? Should the vertical lever when hot rest against the stop bracket. There is a 6mm gap at the moment. If not what gap should I aim for ?

I have checked with the local Bosch diesel firm and they say the part is still available at just under £100 !!**FF.
So can anyone help me save money :(
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

The coldstart wax cylinder that goes into the termostat housing is a very common part. You can get it from either Ctroen or Peugeoet dealers, as it is a standard part for earlier XU D/TD engine units.

Last time I needed one, I purchased it from my local Peugeot dealer (for a 405 1.9D). The price was the equivalent of some £30'ish.

It is very styraihtforward to replace :
Unscrew cable at lever arm
Pull out cable from the vernier adjuster
Home the vernier adjuster
Unscrew unit from thermostat housing (engine cold, please !)
Note that you need a new aluminium sealing ring (a copper ring may be used)

The cable on the new unit may be far too long, as the device is made to fit several model variants.

Cut back the plastic sleeving, then bend the coiled outer cabling and cut it back as you want it.
Fit cable and simply cut back the inner cable as needed.
Adjust cable such the lever arm is tight against the stop by the cable.
Fine adjust on the vernier.

Start engine and let idle. Observe that within a few minutes as the engine gets hotter, the diesel clatter softens a bit in its note, and the lever arm is released - at least 6mm - when engine is working hot (indicated by the cooling fan coming on).
Thats it.

1647.62 CTRL IDLE 22X150 -LG 452 - diesel & turbo - 254.65 DKK
1647.53 CTRL IDLE - diesel & 1.7 & 1.9 - 208,75 DKK
0164 56 SEAL DIAM 22,7X30-2 - 20,15 DKK

Prices at my local Citroen dealer ex vat.
Part no's valid for both Citroen & Peugeot parts.
As you can see its still less than £30 as dealer part
