LHM Leaks and MOTs

Post by kiwi »

Over in little ole NX we have a 6 monthly check, you thought a year was bad.

In the Real World would a BX with a Leak to to FDV or around the FDV fail an MOT?

Would a small leak from the Octopus pipe also fail it?

Dilemas I am faced with in both BXs I now own!

Repair cost would be get the parts from the UK I am sure would be cheaper.

Leaks will fail the MOT here sure, but if they're not severe (eg they just ooze out not drip lots) then you can clean it up with a rag just before the MOT test and it'll usually be OK.

The Octopus might be too 'drippy' to go unnoticed though.

I've had the opposite happen, I had no leaks at all but had sprayed some grease around a height corrector linkage, it failed the test on 'leaking suspension leveling valve'

Me too just before the MOT on my Peugeot I was a bit liberal with the WD40 on a rubber bush by the shock..........luckily the guy who does the mot's is someone I've been going to for years and he pointed ou the 'leak' and after being told merely wiped it over and 'smelled' it to be certain it was WD and passed it.......lucky

Well it passed the car passed its twice yearly physical not even an advisory.

Gave the FDV and pipes a quick clean before taking here in and despite an interupted check because of a call out we had, she behaved herself and didnt dribble to much.

Still getting the FDV fixed the cost of LHM and difficulty in getting locally is a good enough reason alone!

One thing not to happy about is the amount of wear on the front tyres! Dont think they like the roads around here and maybe I can now see why people fit the wider profile tyres in NZ rather than the recommended size.

Next winter ( 7 months time to rub it in) I dont think 3.5mm of tread will be within my tolarance for winter driving, 3mm is my summer limit and 4mm my winter.

The tyres on the other Beasty that was originally destined for Parts are looking mighty tasty. ^^ ^^ Either that or it becomes the winter car assuming I can sort out the Cold starting issues.
