Just been to collect my new BX but.....

Post by rob-81 »

The dash lights, wipers and electric windows were all out. The seller says that they worked last time she used the car and says this has never happened before... Nothing else electrical seems a problem and all the fuses are OK. I was wondering whether anybody has any ideas? I wondered whether the ignition switch is dodgy or something similar. I am going back in the morning to try to sort it but don't know what I'll do if I can't (the car is around 200 miles away from home and I am only in the area until tomorrow PM).

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks, Rob

Sounds like an ignition unit fault or a duff relay. Either way both fixable. get it home and work on it in comfort, use the fault to haggle a bit more off the price!

I did have this same problem on a BX a long time ago The ignition switch was a bit dodgy, (worn) sometimes the key didn't return fully from the starter position and thus no indicators etc etc.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Had the exact same problem with the TRS auto I got from 4 wheel steer that Mr Chidlow aquired, was like Ken said the ignition switch being faulty.

Thanks for the comments guys - I'll have a wiggle of the key tomorrow and see if I can replicate the fault.

On my last BX, the key broke off in the ignition and I had an aftermarket ignition/key fitted. Maybe the same is needed here...

Just got it home. I have driven it around 300 miles today. My impressions so far are:

The body looks very good (without looking underneath properly yet). All the usual rust spots seem sound (except a slight scabby bit on the nsf inner wing). The interior is mint but is the TG/RE spec unfortunately. The front spheres are completely knackered. The rears are pretty bad too. The LHM is a bit manky too. The engine seems good - nippy and has done around 39 mpg so far but looks like it is due a service. I also like the feel of the non-PAS!

The list of jobs are spheres, LHM, timing belt and good service.

Overall, I am pleased with it. I have only driven one 14 before (249,000 miles on it though) and impressed!

Cheers,

Rob

PS and I insured it with Footman James for £127!

Duno where you're based, but if you want a GTi 8V interior I have one in stock getting in the way!

Hi Doc,

That may well be very useful - the RE seats are pretty grim (so comfortable for about 20 minutes and then torture!). I'm in East Anglia - whereabouts are you?

Cheers,

rob

Er, far away from East Anglia mate!
The seats are in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

They aint going anywhere anytime soon so maybe something can be arranged if you want.

Thanks - actually, I might be having a weekend away at some point and we had discussed Gloucestershire. Maybe someting can be arranged (although last time I took my girlfriend to Dorest - where there just happened to be a couple of CX doors - she wasn't happy!).

Cheers
