suspension hydraulics

Post by rob-bx16v »

Just lately ive been having a problem with the hydraulic system on the red 16v. When the system pressurises ( ie when it ticks ) it somehow is stalling the pump causing the engine to almost stall and it only hapens every time it ticks. It was sugested the pressure regulater may be faulty so i bought a recon one from plaedies which has bought the tick time to around 40 seconds from around 10 seconds but the problem still exists. Could it be a problem with the flow valve (fdv) or the pump its self which was renewed 18,000 miles ago. Im worried now because it puts such a strain on the engine it coud snap the camshaft or cambelt at any time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

cheers rob

I fogot to mention it only starts doing this when the car has been run from cold or standing a while after about 2 minutes of ticking over. Ie once theres pressure built up in the system.

Sounds like this could be more to do with the idle mixture adjustment being too lean and therefore unable to provide the necessary power required by the pump cycle? :?

might be worthwhile borrowing a pressure gauge to fit into the pump output to check it's not spiking above the 175 or so bar of pressure it's meant to reach

way2go, the co should be fine as it was adjusted for the last mot although it does hunt a little bit when cold. I also replaced the idle control valve thinking it could be lazy but the problem still persists. :? . out of all the bx,s i have owned over the years this is the only one that has had this fault and its driving me mad :( [/quote]
