Clutch Shudder

Post by Tim Leech »

Noticed driving the 16TRS on Saturday, that there is a slight "shudder" from the clutch when engaging drive after ive swopped cogs, oddly enough it doesnt do it when I initially pull away in first.

The clutch itself is a valeo one which was replaced by BL Autos in 2005 and has done about 15000 miles and is nice and light, but could do with being adjusted as you have to have the pedal on the floor to get a smooth change.

Any thoughts, its liveable for the miles that I do.

Thanks

Mostly shudder like that is caused by some contamination, I had a similar issue with the red TXD once that was cured by a good spraying with brake & clutch cleaner - awkward to do, but it did seem to cure the problem - no idea what got onto the friction plate to this day, but it was a new clutch so I knew it woulnt be carked.
Odd that it doesnt seem noticable when you pull away - perhaps you are slipping the clutch more anyway at that point? :?

There's no point in judging the clutch if its cable is not adjusted properly.

It could be the clutch is engaging suddenly through the maladjustment and what you're feeling is a wind up of the components from the driven plate springs to the engine/gearbox mounts and the driveshafts.
