Hi - just a quick question if that's ok.... My recently bought BX 14 seems to have little or no antifreeze in it. Am I safe to add some blue antifreze to the coolant? I have read horror stories of different antifreezes being mixed and engines being wrecked.
I guess it'd be best to start from scratch and drain and flush the rad but don't know when I will have the time.
Thanks,
Rob

Its getting colder, so its more than likely going to cause the inevitable, if you dont have time, just drop it off at a garage for them to do it, better safe than sorry.
I was running my TZD without any antifreeze in (i didnt realise), 1st cold snap i thought the heater in the car was taking quite a while to release any heat, a few miles into my journey & i had the red lamp of death come on. Pulled up into a carpark & switched car off, got AA out who diagnosed no antifreeze. Luckily for me, there was no damage caused, & by the time the AA arrived, the pipes which had been frozen had managed to defrost themselves. Thats a lesson i'll never forget.....

Re: Antifreeze....
It's a good idea to give a backflush with a hose pipe and then refill using Barr's Professional Flush (available from GSF)+ water, run it for a journey and then empty and flush again before refilling with antifreeze to the prescribed strength.rob-81 wrote:

This Barr's stuff eliminated a red light problem I was starting to get even though the temperature gauge was reading normal.
