I think last year there was a dry day in May, so I may be lucky...
I had wondered about a burnt out valve, but thought that unlikely as with a valve permanantly open, there would be little compression (only the piston rising faster than the air could escape), and hence little or no combustion in that cylinder. Longest time run for was about 15-20 minutes, never under full load. Do you think I am being overly optimistic? I will try the leakdown if I can't find an air leak.
Another puzzling XUD question...

If you're going soft after only a few seconds after you've gone hard then it really does point towards an air leak.
Mine will stay hard for, oh, ages, never timed it, but I always have a cigarette afterwards!
