Fair play Todd, you obviousley have the patience of a saint, I think I'd have lost it and bloody killed the officious prick long before the dental mirror came out..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Well done Todd, great news on the TRD.

The TUV sounds like a trip to hell. never will I ever moan about the UK MOT now I know what you have to go through..

I know where I'd have liked to shove his dental mirror

Let's start the new year with some more TRD problems..

Seems there's still some pressure building up in the cooling system. Water doesn't squirt out but the rad cap constantly hisses - gently - and there's always air to be bled from the thermostat after every run. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the result from driving in this condition might be : power is good, no water in oil or vice versa, just the knowledge that something's amiss! I've done 500kms since new HG.

Does seem to point to the porous head idea. Question is - do I fit a re-con, pressure tested head ( assuming that the block, being 1985 is likely sound) or do I go for the engine swap? If I take a Peugeot 405etc XU9D what diffences are there apart from the hydraulic pump pulley ( does this require the BX cam ?).

2009, Chinese year of the grease monkey!!

Cheers
Todd

Hi Todd,

Sorry to hear 2009 is problematical already :(

Go for the swap. The 405 XUD9 is identical bar the bolt-on ancillaries.

Why not go for an XUD9T and have a TD? It'll be a good move :D

Here's hoping this is your one and only problem in 2009

I'd go the the engine swap.

There will be a few changes along the way, but provided you have both lumps sat side by side on the floor, you should manage.

The exhaust manifold will most likely be different, the pipework round the water pump also.

I did this once, took an engine out of a 205 and fitted it to a BX. I was surprised just how many differences there were.

Yeah, now I've decided, we should all scrap at least one 205 this year and stick the engine in a BX

Good idea. And then we can start on the 405's and 309's.

Go ahead with my full blessing but do please spare any 405 Mi16s and 309 GTi Goodwoods. Both were/are a bit special.

Oh, and please spare my Dad's 205 as well....

What about Mi16 4X4? - it'd just be claiming back what was rightfully owed to the BX  And I agree about the Goodwood. About a close to a purse out of a sow's ear you can get - without ending up with a purse :D

Its really a question of what will be quicker and easier.
And since you are in .de I would go for the total solution as well, there are too many variables with the current problem................ head, gasket, porous block............ a n other.

Just the sort of problem a new father doesn't want in midwinter. I avoid working on cars in the cold. Mainly because its bloody cold here at the moment. Daytime max is around -7 with near -20 in the morning.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

Thanks for replies. Yes, it's bloody parky here too - much too cold for spannering. I will have to live with it for a few weeks, I must also check the rad - it looks perfect but it's 23years old and doesn't warm up uniformly. I'll get the beady eye searching for a suitable Pug to slaughter

I didn't realise that there actually was a Peugeot Mi16 apart from the backyard conversions, well according to this anyway. Almost 70,000DM new - 25k pounds at that time

Hotter hatch

If you have a partially blocked rad, then look no further, this is probably the cause of the HG failure.
