Post by nige! »

New spheres all round.. (all 5), new pump, suspension goes up and down with the lever, no red lights, car rides like a dream.. but there is no ticking from the regulater - should i be worried?

Well, it should make some sort of sound as it functions - either a hiss or a tick. How long have you waited to hear it? Sometimes there can be over a minute between ticks when everything is well.

I'd be interested too if there's any other ideas re this.

How long does it take for the STOP light to go out on initial start?

How long does it take to sink after stopping? If it takes a long time it may well be you have very healthy hydraulics :D

Ticks can vary from loud to near-silent. To not hear a quiet one over the idling engine, especially if it's a diesel is not too unusual.

the car doesn't realy noticeably sink, in the mornings its fairly flat but not on its arse like it was de-pressured.
The lights go out straight away.
I have noticed in a morning start it sits low for about 15-20secs then it raises quite quicky as opposed to a gentle raise from engine on - however i dont know anyone else who has a BX to compare this.. and this is the only Citroen I've ever owned.
I will have a listen out harder for the tick, when i had knacked spheres and pump it was quite loud every 10secs or so.

You guys are great, realy appreciate your responses..

Sounds healthy - is is a power steering model? I think models with the FDV valve wait for a while then rise up suddenly.

Try revving the engine and holding the raised rev to see if that makes it tick once - this is what mine does.

It seems to tick on occasion normally after it's all heated up.
