There is a diesel saloon on offer with a leak (rear offside). When the reservoir is topped up it runs out in 6-7 hours. Does this sound like a high- or a low-pressure problem?

Impossible to speculate. Could be:
Metal hydraulic pipe.
Return pipe chaffed through or split.
Return Y piece perished.
Suspension cylinder boot.
Sphere seal.
*Possibly* suspension cylinder, but they usually go in a rather more spectacular manner!
I'd consider worst case scenario to be burst metal pipe and the rest of the pipework being U/S too, necessitating complete (or at least back end) repipe.
Not hard, but time consuming and fiddly.

Depends how bad the leak isRoverman wrote:As he says BUT if its a HP leak surely it would empty itself in alot quicker than that?
